Didactic Strategy for Improving the Contents Related to the Female Climacteric Period

Abstract

Introduction: The female climacteric period constitutes a topic of great interest for primary health care and its main exponent, the specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine, given the importance of women's role in current Cuban society and the increase of life expectancy. Insufficiencies were found in the teaching -learning process of the contents related to the women's climacteric period in the training of the specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine. Therefore, the need to improve and incorporate knowledge to the training of human resources arises and to optimize the necessary human resources to raise the quality of the services provided to the climacteric woman, at the primary level of care.
Objective: To propose a didactic strategy that contributes to improving the teaching -learning process of the contents related to the women's climacteric period in the training of the specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine.
Methods: A longitudinal, prospective, explanatory investigation was carried out with 58 resident doctors of Comprehensive General Medicine, Cubans, from Victoria de Girón School of Medical Sciences, in Playa municipality, La Habana province, during 2018-2019 academic year.
Results: 72.4 % of resident doctors considered that the contents received related to the climacteric period have been insufficient and 50 % recognized sociocultural factors as determinants in the intensity of the symptoms and signs that occur during that period. There were no significant changes in exploited research skills.
Conclusions: The didactic strategy turned up as an alternative solution to enrich the teaching -learning process related to the women's climacteric period in the training of the specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine.
