Abstract

Introduction: The recurrent loss of pregnancies in a couple constitutes a stressful situation that usually affects 1% of them. Half of the cases remain without a precise diagnosis of their pathology. In Cuba, there is no rigorous registry of this phenomenon, but the number of couples studied each year for this reason, in the Cytogenetics laboratory, is high.
Objectives: To offer an updated review for the analysis by cytogenetic techniques to couples who have recurrent pregnancy losses.
Methods: A bibliographic review was carried out in Ebsco host, ClinicalKey, Pubmed,Dynamed Plus and SciELO databases, which revealed the interest in the care of recurrent abortions and the role of chromosome studies in the process.
Information analysis: Despite the existing differences, in order to consider a couple with recurrent losses, it has been determined that two losses that occurred before 20 weeks of gestation are enough to begin an analysis that includes performing a karyotype test. The researchers suggest conducting a study of the product of conception to consider the importance of studying parents.
Conclusions: Identifying a chromosomal cause for the abortion can be psychologically important to overcome the pain of that loss, as well as to make the decision to try again.Cytogenetic analysis in previous abortions is an important component in counseling couples with a registry of recurrent abortions
