Abstract

Introduction: The birth of a child at the suitable time, according to the parent ́s wishes is a social fact of vital importance at present that should not aggravate the economic situation of the family.
Objective: To assess the effectiveness of an educational intervention in women identified for preconception reproductive risk.
Methods: A quasi-experimental study of an educational intervention type was carried out on a group of 25 women identified in the Preconception Reproductive Risk Program, who met the inclusion criteria and constituted the study sample. The educational strategy was
carried out in three stages: diagnosis, development and evaluation. A survey was prepared to carry out the diagnosis and evaluation of knowledge. For assessing the results, Mc Nemar statistical method was used, with a significance level of p < 0.05.
Results: It was found that before the educational intervention, most of the patients had poor knowledge of family planning, types of contraceptive methods, their advantages, adverse effects and contraindications, a fact that was reversed with the application of the
intervention.
Conclusions: this educational intervention was effective in modifying the level of knowledge about family planning in women identified for preconception reproductive risk. Adequate assimilation of the topics taught was possible.
