Diagnosis and treatment of patients with suspected ectopic pregnancy

Abstract

Introduction: Ectopic pregnancy, is a complication of the first trimester of pregnancy, which represents a high health risk even for the woman's life, it can present serious complications and without timely diagnosis can cause death. Objective: To describe the clinical picture and treatment of patients with suspected ectopic pregnancy admitted to "América Arias" Hospital between.

Methods: An observational, descriptive, analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in patients with a presumptive or confirmed diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy. The study universe included all patients with suspected ectopic pregnancy who were seen at the ‘América Arias’ Hospital between January 2022 and December 2023. The sample will match the universe.

Results: The women most frequently admitted for suspected ectopic pregnancy were between 20 and 29 years of age. A high percentage of patients had a history of induced abortion and a history of pelvic inflammatory disease, use of intrauterine devices and a history of three or more sexual partners were also notable.

Conclusions: Treatment of patients with presumptive diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy is eminently surgical, especially in women with haemodynamic instability.
