Abstract

Isoimmunization is a condition that occurs when there is Rh incompatibility between mothers and their fetus; epidemiology and ethnicity are relevant variables in this entity. The risk that it poses mainly to the fetus and the newborn is important, since it can trigger severe fetal anemia and hydrops fetalis leading to death. This article is a concise bibliographic review ranging from the basic aspects such as epidemiology and pathophysiology, to the behavior to follow with a pregnant woman diagnosed with this condition, or the risk of developing it. Our objective is to offer healthcare professionals a concise overview of Rh incompatibility and isoimmunization and the more complex details of diagnosis and its medical performance.
