Kaposi ́s sarcoma in pregnant women in the third trimester

Abstract

Introduction: Kaposi ́s sarcoma is a multifocal angioproliferative neoplasia with malignant evolution that usually appears in the skin but it can also affect the visceral organs.
Objective: Show a clinical case of pregnant women attended in ́ ́Enrique Cabrera ́ ́ Teaching General Hospital and diagnosed through a biopsy as a carrier of Kaposi ́s sarcoma.
Methods: It was carried out a retrospective, descriptive study of a case through the assessment of the clinical history and the review of updated bibliography.
Presentation of the case: It is presented the case of a pregnant woman, with diagnosis of HIV/AIDS of 6 years of evolution and a treatment with antiretroviral drugs. At the week 32 of pregnancy appears a red-violet vascular lesion with moderate bleeding in the fifth toe of the right foot. Subsequently, nodules of similar characteristics appeared in the axillas and also some painful inguinal adenopathies. The histological study showed Kaposi ́s sarcoma. It was conducted a cesarean section in the week 37 without maternal or perinatal complications, and the patient was referred to other institution to finish the diagnosis studies and start the adequate therapy.
Conclusions: The Obstetrics/Gynecology specialists should become familiar with the clinical forms of Kaposi ́s sarcoma onset which it is sometimes associated to HIV/AIDS patients, in order to find a proper diagnosis, indicate the best alternative therapy, and give
a prognosis that will always require a multidisciplinary management
