Abstract

Introduction: Vaginal vault prolapse is a complication that affects 0.2 to 2 % of patients with a history of total hysterectomy. The main goal of surgical treatment is not only to improve symptoms, but also to avoid recurrence.
Objective:
To determine the frequency of regularity in patients undergoing laparoscopic Sacrocolpopexy due to prolapse of the vaginal vault and its possible relation with some sociodemographic and surgical variables.
Methods: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted in a consecutive series of 41 patients surgically treated at the National Center for Minimally Access Surgery, Havana, Cuba from August 1, 2008 to April 30, 2016.
Results: Recurrence occurred in five patients of the series (12.2 %) after a mean follow-up time of 7.3 years. Their frequency of comorbidity was higher due to the presence of personal pathological history (9.8 % vs. 2.4 %) as well as previous hysterectomy by conventional route in relation to laparoscopy (7.3 % vs. 4.9 %). The differences found were not significant. The success rate (recurrence-free survival) at five years was 84.4 %.
Conclusions: A low frequency of recurrence in the patients who underwent surgery. It was not possible to establish their possible association with some selected variables.
