Vaginal Discharge Syndrome in Women Assisted at a Comprehensive Diagnostic Medical Center

Introduction: The vaginal discharge syndrome is an infectious process of the vagina that characterized by one or several symptoms, specifically leucorrhoea.
Objectives: To determine the behavior of the vaginal discharge syndrome and some of the concomitant factors in women who come to have an organic cytology in the doctor's offices or gynecological consultation.
Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted in the medical offices and gynecological consultation at Rafael Urdaneta Comprehensive Diagnostic Medical Center, in Capital District, Venezuela from January to December 2015. The universe consisted of 1 195 patients from which a non-probabilistic sample was taken by simple randomized method of 240 patients. A survey based on the organic cytology card took the data.
Results: The age group of 25 to 29 years predominated (17.95%). The most frequent predisposing factors were early sexual activity (42.92%), unprotected sex (79.91%), antecedent of leucorrhoea (71.79%) and poor hygienic habits of the genitals (56.41%). The typical flow that predominated was grayish white and stinking, homogeneous, not adherent in 35.83% of the cases.
Conclusions: The vaginal discharge syndrome was more frequent in adults. The most frequent associated factors were unprotected sex, a history of vaginal infections, inadequate genital hygiene and early sexual activity. The white leucorrhea was grayish and fetid, homogeneous, non-adherent. The most commonly reported symptom was vaginal discharge.
