Abstract

Introduction: Last 50 years have been characterized by a vertiginous advance of science. The ease with which the Internet can distribute information to geographically distant users on a wide variety of computers makes it an obvious candidate for a technological solution for electronic patient registration and reporting systems.
Objective: To determine the level of satisfaction of relatives when receiving patient reports through video calls from a third level hospital.
Methods: A survey of 18 questions was answered during interviews to measure the degree of satisfaction of relatives from August to November 2016. The age range was from 18 to 70 years of age. The level of studies and kinship were classified.
Results: 465 surveys were performed. We gathered 5,580 responses. The average age was 37 years. The average time of the family report, percentages of confidentiality, privacy, emotions and the main municipalities which were assisted from the State of Mexico were obtained. The groups that presented the highest satisfaction taking into account the age, level of studies and kinship were those between 36 and 40 years of age, those who had spouses and had studies until primary, respectively. 92.3 % of respondents received the average report of 2 and 3 minutes. 98 % of family members perceived that the report through video-call allows greater communication in the trinomial doctor-patient-family.
Conclusions: The use of video calling in sensitive areas, such as Obstetrics, allows to increase the perception of warmth in medical treatment, which results in a higher range of patient satisfaction.
