Abstract

Introduction: Sonohysterography consists of ultrasound evaluation of the uterine cavity after saline insufflation. The most common indications are abnormal uterine bleeding, as a complement in the study of sterility-infertility and assessment of the uterine cavity and tubal factor.
Objective: To evaluate the main structures of the female reproductive system by contrast sonography of a sterile isotonic saline solution.
Methods: A longitudinal, descriptive and prospective study was carried out with a group of patients scheduled for sonohysterography at 10 de Octubre Maternity Hospital from September 2020 to October 2021, these subjects underwent evaluation of the uterine cavity using sonohysterography. The variables analyzed were age, origin, intracavitary findings, most frequent uterine diseases, previous pregnancies and conceived deliveries.
Results: The indication for sonohysterography was made exclusively by infertility consultation. The age group with the highest incidence was between 31 and 40 years (62.7%). The most frequent uterine diseases were uterine fibroids (53%) among others.
The municipality of origin of the patients was 10 de Octubre (46%). 65% of the patients had previous pregnancies and 79% of them had conceived deliveries, in which abortion had the highest incidence of interrupted pregnancies (44.7%).
Conclusions: Sonohysterography is a procedure without side effects and with a low cost of performance, which shows that its use and the corresponding professional preparation and certification of professionals in gynecobstetric care institutions can be encouraged to ensure that its efficient performance.
