Obstetric Psychoprophylaxis: An Unavoidable Path to Achieving Humanized Childbirth in Cuba

Introduction: Currently, obstetric psychoprophylaxis has a leading place in the orientation and preparation of the couple to deal with pregnancy and childbirth as natural processes. This paper invites professionals in the obstetric area to reflect on this conception and to establish a direct relationship with the humanization of care for women.
Objectives: To carry out an evaluative and reflective analysis of the current obstetric psychoprophylaxis program, as an unavoidable way to achieve the quality of comprehensive care for Cuban women during childbirth.
Methods: A systematic bibliographic review was carried out to critically analyze the content of the current Obstetric Psychoprophylaxis Program in Cuba. The search was done in SciELO and Google academic databases. After identifying the preselected studies, titles, abstracts and keywords were read to check their relevance to the study.
Conclusions: Obstetric psychoprophylaxis is a comprehensive preparation that contemplates personalization in the care of each pregnant woman and clinical criteria, risk approach, ethics and humanization must be considered. In addition, it is a right and a responsibility of the pregnant women, from the recognition of living this stage of their reproductive life in a closer and more involved way during the process of motherhood.
