Ectopic Pregnancy in Residual Tubal Stump
Embarazo ectópico en muñón de trompa residual
Keywords:
ectopic pregnancy, residual tubal stumpAbstract
Introduction: Ectopic pregnancy occurs when the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus. Approximately half of the women who suffer from it show no known risk factors; however, its main location is the fallopian tubes. It can also occur in atypical sites such as the stump of a residual tube.
Objective: To describe a case of ectopic pregnancy of atypical location.
Case presentation: 36-year-old female patient with a history of left tubal pregnancy and right partial salpingectomy by Pomeroy technique. She attended the Hospital Provincial General Universitario Mártires del 9 de abril, Sagua la Grande, Villa Clara, Cuba, with vague amenorrhea, abnormal genital bleeding and discomfort in the lower abdomen. She was diagnosed with a possible complicated ectopic pregnancy with hemodynamic stability. She underwent an emergency exploratory laparotomy, in which a medium hemoperitoneum and an ectopic pregnancy in the residual stump were found.
Conclusions: The existence of ectopic pregnancy in a residual tube stump was demonstrated, which obliges health professionals to consider this diagnostic possibility.
