Introduction: studies on embryonic quality during the in vitro fertilization procedure by egg donation are becoming increasingly relevant, due to their importance in the treatment and prognosis of infertile couples.
Objectives: to characterize the embryonic quality in vitro fertilization by egg donation of couples treated at the Regional Center for the care of infertile couples in Holguín, 2019-2020.
Methods: a retrospective longitudinal study was carried out. The sample was of the intentional type, it was made up of 75 couples who attended the Regional Center for the care of the infertile couple in the period studied. Theoretical and empirical methods and statistical procedures were used to guarantee the methodological triangulation carried out. The chi-square test allowed establishing the relationships between the selected variables.
Results: among the factors that modify the embryonic quality, maternal age over 40 years predominated; donated oocytes at the intermediate maturity stage and mature; sperm with low scores in the rapid recovery test and significantly higher implantation of zygotes in the blastocyst stage. Endometrial stimulation between 15 and 30 days and endometrial thickness between 6 and 12 mm were the factors of endometrial quality.
Conclusions: the combination of a good endometrial thickness (> 7 mm) and the presence of a triple layer endometrial pattern would be associated with a higher pregnancy rate. Embryo implantation failure is the main cause of unsuccessful OD-IVF cycles.
