Abstract

Introduction: Along with the biological problems that can occur in pregnancy, there are others of social nature that act as conditioning factors and negative consequences of pregnancy in adolescents.
Objectives: To describe conditioning factors and social consequences of pregnancy in adolescents.
Methods: A descriptive research was carried out in the clinics 6 and 18 at Fabio D ́Celmo teaching community clinic, in Caonao, Cienfuegos, during May 2019. Seventeen pregnant adolescents from these clinics were included. A survey was carried out to obtain information on variables such as age, school level, occupation, marital status, and area of residence, in addition to other aspects
considered as conditioning factors and consequences. The contradictory results obtained from the survey led us to perform a group exchange with the adolescents to discuss topics such as preparation to care for their children, family dynamics,
and economic conditions, among others.
Results: Among the social determinants of pregnancy in adolescents, the following stood out: having a stable partner (94.1%), family history of pregnancy in adolescence (70.5%), early menarche, early initiation of sexual relations (more than 50% of those surveyed), and poor or fair economic conditions (44.1 and 29.4%), respectively. The adolescents did not consider the social consequences of
their pregnancy. After the exchange, they recognized the alteration of family dynamics and the economic problems to face upbringing.
Conclusions: The adolescent girls studied have poor and wrong perception of the social consequences of early pregnancy.
