Abstract

Introduction: Breasts can be affected by numerous benign inflammatory processes, which occur mostly in reproductive-age women.
Objective: To characterize the behavior of benign breast diseases in Pedro Borrás Astorga Polyclinic, Pinar del Río, Cuba.
Methods: A non-experimental, descriptive and transversal research was developed in patients at the breast consultation in Pedro Borrás Astorga Polyclinic, Pinar del Río, Cuba, in 2017. The study universe was 219 patients. The sample was random probabilistic type and was composed of 96 subjects of both sexes whose ages ranged between 15 and 62 years. A questionnaire was applied based on the bibliography and the author's interests. The variables measured were skin color, kind of benign disease, age, place of residence and perceptions of the disease they suffer. Descriptive statistics, chi square, test and statistical package SPSS were used for the analysis of the results.
Results: the relationship of age with the appearance of breast benign diseases is significant in patients between 20 and 30 years of age. The breast fibrocystic disease is the most frequent affection and it is more frequent in white women who from urban areas. The recurrent valuations link the breast diseases with diet, and breast cancer antecedents.
Conclusion: The study can contribute to improve health treatments to the patients affected by these diseases. Thus, it is necessary to deepen into the relationship between demographic variables and benign breast diseases.
